Bowling for Columbine: at the bank

This scene shows Michael entering a bank that gives away free guns to any new customer, Michael is trying to show just how much of a gun culture America has in bedded into its roots. When He is given the gun from the bank he waves it around and poses as if he is very proud of his new toy. This is him trying to act like what he believes many Americans act when receiving a gun.

Dominant

My opinion on this would be dominant this is because from the clip Michael says, " You think its a little dangerous handing out guns in a bank". This is just after he has finishing posing with the gun and looking proudly at the camera with it. Another point would be at how easy he makes getting the gun look. All that Michael needs to do is sign a few simple forms and the gun is his. Pointing out his point of how easy it is to get it.

Bowling for Columbine - Marilyn Manson (Fear and Consumption)

This clip shows Michael speaking to controversial artist Marilyn Manson who at the time was being blamed for making music too edgy and hardcore. The tabloids made articles about certain high school shooters listening to his music and them taking inspiration from his lyrics and certain style. However Michael makes very valid points about Manson and how the newspapers and public opinion was very biased and not fair at all and how they singled him out from the start.

Negotiated

My impression of this is very mixed thats why I believe Negotiated is correct for this clip. Firstly I feel that the media has been very harsh on blaming Manson for what happened however the music that he produced was very hardcore and did portray a slight hatred toward society that may lead to a very small percentage of the population acting it out.

Matt Stone interviewed in "Bowling for Columbine"

This clip is a short interview with famous director of south Park Matt Stone, Matt who grew up in little tone the same town of the columbine killers states that the town is very normal and in no way any different to any other small town in America, He goes on to say that he feels school children have too much pressure put on them at a young age to perform well and if they do not then life after school is very sad and not worth living for. Matt stone ultimately believes the school system has failed the children and my have possibly been a big factor in the decisions they made.

Opposition

I believe that what matt stone is saying is quite wrong, this is because with this interview he seems to in some ways feel sorry for the two students even though what they did was very wrong. However he was stating that the education system failed the children in many ways as they may have felt worthless and beyond help. Matt also believes that school isn't the most important thing in life and if you do not do well in school it isn't a bad thing. However this isn't all true as for some people it is and can effect the rest of there future.
